Connect Instagram and Messenger

Both go through the Facebook page: what to have ready, the steps, and the limits of each.

Instagram and Messenger are connected the same way, from Connections → Channels, and both go through a Facebook page.

What has to be ready first

A Facebook page where you are an administrator.
For Instagram, a professional account (business or creator) linked to that page. If your Instagram is personal, it has to be converted first, from the Instagram app itself.
Access to messages from external tools has to be allowed in the Instagram settings.

Almost every connection problem is one of these three things, not a meruma failure.

The steps

In Channels, click Connect with Facebook on the Instagram or Facebook Messenger card.
A Meta window opens. Sign in with the account that administers the page.
Authorize the permissions it asks for. If you remove any, the channel will not be able to read or answer messages.
Pick the page from the list that appears when you come back.
Done: the connection is made and messages start arriving in the chat.

If you have several pages, they all appear and you pick which one. You can connect more than one: each page is a separate connection.

What works and what does not

Direct messages come in. Comments on posts do not.
On Instagram, voice notes arrive but Meta does not always deliver the audio in a format that plays outside the app.
As with WhatsApp, history from before the connection is not imported.
Instagram has its own reply window: past that time from the person’s last message, Meta no longer allows replying freely.

If messages stop arriving

The usual cause is that someone changed the Facebook password, removed the permission, or is no longer an administrator of the page. Reconnect appears on the connection: repeat the Facebook step and the conversation history is kept.
