What it is for

A WhatsApp link opens a conversation with your business without the person having to save your number. It works on your website button, in an Instagram bio, in an email, on a sign with a QR code, or in an ad.

How it is built

The format is https://wa.me/ followed by your number with country code, no plus sign and no spaces. If you also want the message pre-written, ?text= and the encoded text are appended. This tool does both.

Three things worth knowing

  • The pre-written message can be edited: the person sees it before sending.
  • If someone writes from a normal link, the 24-hour window opens and you can reply freely. If they arrive from a click-to-WhatsApp ad the window is 72 hours, and Meta does not charge you for those messages.
  • The link does not distinguish between regular WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business: it works with whichever number you have.

What a link does not solve

Two people handling the same number, a record of who answered what, the contact saved with its history, and nobody left unanswered on Monday morning. That is no longer a link: it is a conversational CRM.
