Calling cost calculator
What it costs to have a phone number for your business and use it: the monthly rental, the minutes going out and the ones coming in. With Telnyx reference rates you can replace with your own.
The cost has three parts
Almost everyone thinks only about the per-minute rate, and the minute is usually the cheapest part. The three parts are:
- The number rental. Paid every month whether you use the number or not. A local number starts at USD 1 per month, dropping with volume from 0.79 to 0.25 depending on how many you hold. A US toll-free 800 number works differently: USD 500 upfront covering the first year, then USD 40 per month.
- Outbound minutes. From USD 0.005 per minute, but it varies a lot by where you call: a landline in your own country is not the same as a mobile abroad.
- Inbound minutes. From USD 0.0032 per minute on a local number. On toll-free numbers it flips: receiving costs more (from USD 0.015), because the business is the one paying for the call.
Why the prices are editable
Because a fixed table would lie to you. Rates change by destination, line type, contracted volume and over time. The values loaded here are the reference ones Telnyx publishes; your exact rates are in your Telnyx dashboard, and changing them here gives you your real bill.
What meruma charges for this
Nothing. Calling usage is drawn from credits at the published rate with no markup of ours: every call is recorded at the cost the provider reports. meruma charges for its plan, and calling runs separately and in plain sight.
Check this before buying a number
- Paperwork. Several countries require the holder's identity and address before selling you a number, and that takes time.
- Emergency calls. Internet calling does not replace an emergency service: it does not guarantee reaching an emergency number or transmitting your location. Worth telling your team.
- Recording. If you are going to record calls, much of Latin America, the United States and the European Union require telling the other party, and sometimes asking permission.
- Text messages. If you will also send SMS, that is a separate cost and the United States requires a registration. It is in the SMS calculator.
